Known as the U. S. District Court for the West District of Tennessee when created in 1802, the district is divided into two divisions.
The Eastern Division consists of Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, McNairy, Madison, Obion, Perry, and Weakley Counties, including the waters of the Tennessee River to low water mark on the Eastern shore thereof wherever such river forms the boundary line between the Western and Middle Districts of Tennessee from the north line of the State of Alabama north to the point of Henry County, Tennessee where the south boundary line of the state of Kentucky strikes the east bank of the river. The court sits at Jackson, Tennessee.
The Western Division consists of Dyer, Fayette, Lauderdale, Shelby, and Tipton Counties. The court sits at Memphis, Tennessee. |
